Have you heard about those Bax+Towner boys…

WHEN ONE IS NOT ENOUGH

People always ask us how we work together as a photography/directing duo.

The answer is simple: by merging our brains into a single, creative, hive-mind. It's a secret technique we've refined over the years involving chanting, meditation, and a little bit of head-butting. The concussions take their toll but the results speak for themselves. Plus, it really helps to have two pairs of eyes on set – one for the camera and one for the snacks.

“But wait a minute,” we hear you ask, as you imagine two grown men leg wrestling over who gets to hold the camera. “Why should we hire two photographers for this project? Isn’t that expensive?”

As one of our favorite producers likes to say, “I love a good BOGO!”

But seriously, working as a team has its perks. We can bounce ideas off each other, divide and conquer tasks, and cover more ground (literally and figuratively).

Plus, we're adaptable - whatever the project needs, we've got it covered. Sometimes we both have cameras in hand, sometimes one of us is directing from the monitor with clients, and sometimes we're capturing both stills and video at the same time. No matter what, we're constantly communicating and working together to bring home the best possible imagery for ourselves and our clients.

So next time you're thinking about going it alone, remember: two heads (and two cameras!) are better than one.

GET TO KNOW THE FELLAS

Jason Bax

Raised in the flattest part of the country, later in life he would decide that mountains were “his jam” and swear off flip-flops and jorts. Ever the outdoorsman, he thrives in that type-2 fun, but will settle for a cold beer and shot of mezcal.

A lover of architecture and landscapes, he’s actually pretty good at photographing both, and would happily quit this job if Nat Geo would just answer his DM’s. He and his lovely wife have remodeled a beautiful cabin in Lake Tahoe and spend most of their free time digging themselves out of the snow.

John Towner

After flunking out of architecture school, he spent years sulking in a photo darkroom, straining his eyesight pouring over photo books under the dim red light all while shortening his lifespan inhaling fixer fumes.

Today, as a less emo and slightly more well-rounded adult, he’s a husband to an incredible wife and father of a grumpy cat and a lazy dog. A lover of cinema and endlessly gear obsessed, he enjoys long walks along the beach with a backpack full of vintage lenses he bought because “they have so much character.”
